Amsterdam-headquartered French recycling company Ecore Group has announced that it has entered the final stage in the acquisition of 70 percent of the share capital in the fifth largest recycling company in Germany, Schrott Wetzel Group, which will allow it to reinforce its position as a leader in the European market.

The Wetzel Group processes 900,000 mt per year at its 13 sites located in Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Belgium, predominantly focusing on the ferrous scrap market.

With the future integration of Schrott Wetzel, the Ecore Group will also hold a leading position in the two largest European markets, Germany and France. Together, the two companies generate volumes approaching 4 million mt across all families of products, originating from the group's 82 sites, including Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, India and China.

"This forthcoming acquisition will generate synergies for both companies, in part thanks to their complementary processing locations, common technical and industrial developments, as well as developments into new families of products," reads the company's statement.
