Dragon Steel commissions new converter at Taichung works

In January 2010, German industry equipment provider SMS Siemag successfully commissioned the first of two new carbon steel converters at the Taichung works of Taiwanese steelmaker Dragon Steel Corporation. 70 percent of the shares in Dragon Steel Corporation are held by China Steel, Taiwan’s largest steelmaker.

According to a SMS Siemag press release, the second converter is scheduled to be commissioned in the spring of 2010, and with both converters the meltshop is rated for an annual production of 2.2 million mt.

In addition to the two converters, SMS Siemag’s supply includes the complete bin

system for ferroalloys, the gas cleaning plant with primary dedusting unit, as well as the gas recovery system, all vehicles, ladles and slag pots.
