At the SteelOrbis Market Talks Meeting held in Bursa in northwestern Turkey on February 24, over 200 representatives from 103 different companies including steel producers and consumers, particularly in the field of steel structures, and from various segments of the steel supply chain, gathered together to discuss the current situation in the steel markets.
At the first session chaired by Turkish Structural Steel Association secretary general and vice chairman H. Yener Gür'eş, market players stated that in Turkey the advantages of steel structures have not been assimilated sufficiently by the construction sector although Turkey is situated on a seismic zone. In addition, it was also stated that Turkey's steel structure sector could overcome some of its problems by creating more connections between structural steel producers and steel structure designers in order to match up the designers' needs with the potential of steel producers.
Accordingly, market operators agreed that Turkish steel structure designers and manufacturers need to be in closer contact with steelmakers in order to improve product ranges and quality and to ensure use of the right product in the appropriate field of usage. Another requirement in the Turkish steel structure sector was defined as the creation of a coordinated financial structure between Turkish financial institutions and domestic steel structure players.
