South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering announced on June 27 that it has received an order to build 10 large container ships, worth KRW 2 trillion ($1.85 billion) for Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk.

Under the agreement with the world's largest container carrier, Daewoo said it will by 2015 deliver the 10 ships, which will each have a capacity of 18,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers. "With this deal, we have achieved 61 percent of our sales goal of $11 billion for this year," the company stated in its announcement.

Meanwhile, Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) confirmed that it has signed contracts with Daewoo and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for two 9,200 teu and 10 14,000 teu vessels, respectively, in a deal worth US$1.54 billion.
