CSN to expand capacity

According to recent market reports, Brazilian steel producer Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) is planning to increase its capacity of processing steel in North America. In addition, CSN also aims to expand its slab production by 2.2 million tons within three years. Accordingly, the company has to add a fourth blast furnace at its Volta Redonda plant in Brazil. Company officials stated that their plant in India remains the operation at its normal level to increase the production rate. However, CSN has aborted slab importing to the US to feed the Indiana operation.
