Brazilian integrated flat steel maker, Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN), has reduced its steel production output at its CSN LLC Terre Haute, Indiana plant in the US, and its Lusosider plant located in Portugal.

CSN’s chief executive officer, Benjamin Steinbruch, told press that their CSN LLC plant is currently utilizing 60 percent of its installed production capacity of 1.1 million mt annually, while the Lusosider plant is currently only utilizing 40 percent of their installed production capacity of 550,000 mt annually.

According to Steinbruch, the production cuts have not yet had a significant impact on the CSN headquarter plant in Brazil.

"Given that these steel mills use slabs produced in Brazil as a resource, we only had to reduce the shipment of slabs. We continue to operate normally (in Brazil),” Steinbruch said.
