Crude steel output increase likely for Libya’s Lisco

Company officials at Lisco in Libya, report plans to upgrade and increase the capacity for three of its six electric arc furnaces (EAF). The increased output would include rolling for longs – primarily rebar for domestic and export markets. If the upgrade and increase go through, officials report this would raise Lisco's steel crude capacity to 2 million tons a year over its current 1.2 million tons a year. In 2001, Lisco produced about 1 million tons of crude steel.
