Construction value in Mexico grows 8.1 percent in April

The value of Mexican construction industry works, one of the largest consumers of steel, registered a real increase, year-over-year, of 8.1 percent in April, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency Inegi.

In nominal pesos (without adjustment to eliminate inflation), the value of the works was MXN 47.88 billion ($2.72 billion).

Nuevo Leon, home to the largest manufacturer of flat and long steel in Latin America, is the largest construction economy in Mexico with 8.1 percent of the total. In April, the value of work in the state increased 13.1 percent.

Of the 32 states of the country, the value of the works increased in 20, of which Quintana Roo stood out with an increase of 315 percent and Campeche with an increase of 215 percent. In contrast, it decreased in 12 states, with Tlaxcala, Mexico City and Guerrero standing out with drops of more than 30 percent.
