South Korean steel giant POSCO held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second POSCO-CTPC plant in the Tianjin Economic-Technologic Development Area (TEDA) in Huabei, China on March 30. The automobile sheet facility will have an annual capacity of 120,000 mt.

Chinese and other global makers of automobiles and car parts operate in Tianjin and the Huabei region, contributing to the emergence of TEDA's pivotal role for the auto industry.

In 1995, POSCO completed the first POSCO-CTPC plant in Tianjin, which also has an annual capacity of 120,000 mt. It now supplies steel products to major electronics companies such as LG and Daewoo.

Products from the second plant will be supplied to carmakers including Toyota, Tianjin Faw Xiali Automobile and Great Wall Motors.
