The extraordinary commissioners of the former Ilva steelmaking group have filed an appeal at a Milan court today, November 15, stating that the legal conditions do not exist for the global steel giant ArcelorMittal to pull out of the takeover deal for the former Ilva group.

ArcelorMittal had blamed the Italian government's decision to remove previous guarantees of legal immunity during the massive clean-up process at Ilva's heavily polluted plant in Taranto. The government, on the other hand, believes the group has no legal grounds to pull out of the takeover contract and has accused it of using the immunity issue as a pretext to walk away from Ilva as it is recording heavy losses at the plant.
