The Court of Milan has postponed to December 20 the discussion of the urgent appeal with which the Ilva commissioners have challenged global steel giant ArcelorMittal's decision to withdraw from the lease and subsequent takeover agreement concerning the Taranto-based steelmaking plant and its subsidiaries.

The postponement is "due to the negotiations that will be carried out on the basis of the agreements and commitments undertaken", reads a note signed by Roberto Bichi, president of the Court of Milan. On Friday, November 22, negotiations between the Italian government and the management of the global steel giant reopened.

ArcelorMittal Italia CEO Lucia Morselli, who attended the court hearing in Milan on November 27, guaranteed normal operations of the plants and continuity of production at least until December 20. If an agreement between the Italian government and ArcelorMittal is reached by December 20, the court case will be terminated.
