Coal exports from PWCS up three percent in September from August

Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 9.3 million mt in September this year, rising by three percent compared to August, according to the company's announcement. 16 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was coking coal.

In the first nine months of this year, coking coal exports constituted 15 percent of overall coal exports from PWCS, which totaled 81.8 million mt, up 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first nine months of the year, with shipments to Japan accounting for 50.4 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 22.25 percent of the total.
