Coal exports from Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 9.3 million mt in September this year, increasing by 16.2 percent compared to August, according to the company's announcement. 15 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals in September was coking coal.
According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in September, with shipments to Japan accounting for 53.6 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to South Korea made up 18.9 percent of the total.
PWCS accounts for one third of Australia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
