Coal exports from PWCS up 12.5 percent in Dec from Nov

Coal exports from Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 10.44 million mt in December last year, increasing by 12.5 percent compared to November, according to the company's announcement. 14 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals in December was coking coal.
 
According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in December, with shipments to Japan accounting for 62.5 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to Taiwan made up 11.3 percent of the total. 
 
PWCS accounts for one third of Australia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
