In the January-July period of the current year, Turkey's steel exports increased by 2.4 percent year on year to 11.1 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $8.4 billion, up 26.7 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB).
In the first seven months of this year, export volumes of hot rolled flat steel products showed the highest year-on-year increases, followed by steel sections and alloyed flat steel products. In the given period, steel exports to Algeria increased significantly in terms of volume.
CIB chairman Adnan Aslan stated that in the January-July period this year rebar showed the biggest decline in steel exports, mainly due to the unfair trade cases opened against Turkey. According to Mr. Aslan, in addition to the US and Egypt, both of which implement unfair trade measures against Turkey, rebar exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) declined in the same period because of the rise in import duties in the region aiming to protect the local producers. Mr. Aslan also stated that rebar exports to Singapore and Hong Kong continued in the January-July period this year, though the year-on-year growth rate of these exports decreased compared to the same period last year.
