German plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that China-based Dongbei Special Steel has successfully commissioned the world's largest continuous bloom caster.

The new 800-mm continuous bloom caster supplied by SMS Concast produces high-quality special steel blooms with an annual capacity of up to 450,000 mt. The machine casts blooms with diameters of 600 to 800 mm. Dongbei Special Steel uses the blooms to forge large shafts, tool steel, and stainless steel products.
