Chinese steel production breaks monthly record in October
SteelOrbis Shanghai The Chinese steel industry produced 37.68 million mt of steel, 36.15 million mt of iron and 41.59 million mt of finished steel in October, up 18 percent, 19.2 percent and 23.4 percent year on year respectively. Compared with the previous month, the production figures rose 4.2 percent, 3.4 percent and 3.8 percent respectively. The cumulative Jan-Oct production of steel, iron and finished steel totaled 346.14 million mt, 335.24 million mt and 380.62 million mt, up 18.4 percent, 21.1 percent and 23.8 percent year on year. Broken down into the various steel products in October, the production of rebar reached 7.275 million mt, up 15.8 percent year on year; that of wire rod amounted to 6.36 million mt, up 18 percent; that of heavy plate totaled 1.2925 million mt, up 34.1 percent; production of medium plate reached 2.0682 million mt, up 20.8 percent; that of hot rolled sheet stood at 659,600 mt, up 232 percent; that of cold rolled sheet added up to 1.23 million mt, up 43.5 percent; that of medium and wide strip reached 4.1592 million mt, up 20.5 percent; production of hot rolled thin and wide strip reached 1.57 million mt, up 36.4 percent; that of cold rolled thin and wide strip totaled 1.1593 million mt, up 67.4 percent; that of hot rolled narrow strip reached 2.9166 million mt, up 12.5 percent; that of galvanized sheet (coil) amounted to 1.23 million mt, up 49.6 percent; that of seamless steel pipe reached 1.3056 million mt, up 28.7 percent; while, finally, production of welded steel pipe totaled 1.9292 million mt, up 25.5 percent.
