Chinese steel exports' rapid growth continues in September

SteelOrbis Shanghai According to the figures released by China's General Customs Administration, China's steel exports in September totaled 4.07 million metric tons, up 200 percent year on year and up 5.44 percent compared with August. China's steel imports in September totaled 1.58 million metric tons, down 36.5 percent year on year and down 50,000 metric tons on the August figure. China's net steel exports increased 11.66 percent from August to 2.49 million metric tons in September. From January to August, China's cumulative steel exports increased 81 percent year on year to 28.59 million metric tons, while cumulative steel imports decreased 29.3 percent to 14.14 million metric tons, resulting in 14.45 million metric tons of cumulative net exports. Semi-finished steel exports amounted to 1.07 million metric tons in September, up 675 percent year on year, but down 5.3 percent on August. Imports totaled approximately 30,000 metric tons, down 73.7 percent year on year, basically equal to the level for August. The result was 1.04 million metric tons in net exports of semi-finished steel. From January to August, China's cumulative semi-finished steel exports increased 2.4 percent year on year to 6.13 million metric tons. Cumulative imports decreased 70.9 percent to 320,000 metric tons, resulting in 5.81 million metric tons of cumulative net exports. Total semi-finished steel and finished steel exports reached 3.31 million mt in September, equal to 3.69 million metric tons of crude steel, up 240,000 metric tons from August.
