China’s steel products import situation for the 1st Q,05
During January-March 2005, China totally imported 5.97 million tons of steel products with $5.88 billion commercial value, down 40.8% year on year. The details show that, the import quantity of railway steel products totaled 23'000 tons, down 76.6% year on year. The imports of large section totaled 102'000 tons, down 60.9%; while that of light & medium section totaled 37'000 tons, down 13.5%. Bar product imports totaled 70'400 tons, down 20.4%; that of rebar totaled 22'000 tons, down 66.5%, and that of wire rod totaled 152'000 tons; down 46.6%. The imports of super heavy plate totaled 28'400 tons, down 62.1%; that of heavy plate totaled 42'300 tons, down 84.2%; that of medium plate has totaled 183'100 tons, down 68.7%; that of HR sheet totaled 56'700 tons, down 20.1%, and that of CR sheet totaled 382'700 tons, down 25.5%. The imports of medium thick & wide strip totaled 665'000 tons, down 47.3%; that of HR thin & wide strip totaled 566'700 tons, down 53.0%; that of CR thin & wide strip totaled 1.36 million tons, down 38.7%; that of narrow HR strip totaled 53'700 tons, down 10.1%; that of narrow CR strip totaled 133'500 tons, up 9.9%, and that of plating sheet/strip totaled 1.32 million tons, down 23.9%. The imports of color coated sheet totaled 96'900 tons, down 49.9%; that of silicon steel totaled 322'600 tons, down 30.1%; that of seamless steel pipe totaled 167'200 tons, up 6.2%; and that of welded steel pipe totaled 80'000 tons, down 48.1% year on year.
