Xie Hongguang, the deputy director of China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has commented that a small slowdown in the growth rate of China's gross domestic product (GDP) is a normal phenomenon. In the first half of the current year, China's GDP rose by 9.6 percent year on year, while the growth rates for the first two quarters were respectively 9.7 percent and 9.5 percent, as compared to the respective quarters of 2010. In the second half of 2010, China's GDP had grown by 10.3 percent year on year.
Mr. Xie stated that, despite the slight drop in China's GDP growth rate in H1, the Chinese economy has been developing steadily, with little chance of any rapid slip in the GDP growth rate. He pointed out that the drop is the result of active control measures put in place by the government and the withdrawal of some stimulus policies.
