According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in March of the current year China’s iron ore production amounted to 74.757 million mt, increasing by 9.1 percent year on year, shifting from the year-on-year decrease of 4.6 percent recorded in the first two months of the year.

Import iron ore prices have fluctuated at relatively high levels in March amid quite good demand as steelmakers resumed production following effective control of the coronavirus in China. However, the worsening coronavirus pandemic worldwide exerted a negative impact on import iron ore prices in late March.

In the first quarter of the year, China produced 187.902 million mt of iron ore, decreasing by 0.1 percent year on year.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, China imported 262.732 million mt of iron ore in the January-March period of the year, up 1.3 percent year on year.
