China to invest RMB 2 trillion in domestic irrigation systems

According to a joint statement issued on January 25 by China’s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Water Resources and the National Development and Reform Commission, in the next five years China will invest around RMB 2 trillion ($304 billion) in domestic irrigation systems. Of the investment total, 55 percent will be spent on the construction of new irrigation projects, 30 percent will be allocated for the repair and maintenance of existing irrigation systems and 15 percent will be used for emergency work and flood control.
