China to focus on energy conservation levels in steel industry in 2010

On January 14, Vice Minister of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei stated during a meeting that China will view energy conservation and pollution reduction as an important aspect of adjusting industrial structure and transforming the mode of development, and will put key focuses on implementation of energy conservation evaluation in investment projects in guidelines on energy conservation and pollution reduction for key industries, in enterprises' energy conservation management and evaluation of enterprises' responsibilities.

Thus the Chinese authorities aim to enhance energy conservation levels in key industries such as steel, nonferrous metals, construction steel and chemicals.
