On July 15, the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) announced that the China Steel Price Index (CSPI) stood at 135.93 points at the end of May, up 1.20 points or 0.89 percent month on month and increasing by 15.49 points or 12.86 percent year on year.

The CISA stated in its monthly report for May that domestic steel production capacity utilization during the month remained at high levels, while the peak period for steel consumption still continued. However, it also noted a slowdown in the growth of steel demand, and predicted that domestic steel market prices would be characterized by fluctuations in the coming period.
