China sets 2011 elimination targets for outdated industrial capacities

On May 10, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued targets for the elimination of outdated industrial capacities by local governments in China in 2011.

The MIIT has ordered 18 industrial sectors in China to eliminate outdated production capacities in 2011. The elimination targets affect 26.53 million mt of iron production capacity, 26.27 million mt of steel capacity and 133.55 million mt of cement output capacity.

The different provinces and regions will share different responsibilities in accomplishing the targets in question, the MIIT said.
