China issues import-export data for October 2008

The latest statistics from China's customs authorities show that during October of the current year China's steel exports totaled 4.62 million mt, down 30.73 percent or 2.05 million mt from 6.67 million mt in September 2008 and up 8.98 percent or 0.38 million mt from 4.24 million mt in October 2007.

China's total steel exports for the January-October 2008 period amounted to 53.12 million mt, down 1.2 percent from the corresponding period of 2007.

Meanwhile, during October 2008 China's billet exports stood at 0.11 million mt, whereas they amounted to 1.24 million mt during the January-October 2008 period.

On the other hand, during October of the current year China's steel imports totaled 1.15 million mt, down 9.45 percent month on month and 4.94 percent year on year. China's total steel imports for the January-October period amounted to 13.47 million mt.
