China HR sheet/coil daily recap – September 19

On Monday (September 19), most price quotations of medium HRS&C kept stable in the Shanghai market, and several traders even raised their price quotations slightly. The actual deal price also showed a minor increase. Thin product prices were weak, and the general transaction volume was low today. The prevailing market price of 5.75mm*1500*C SS400 increased RMB 30/ton to RMB 3'450/ton ($425); 2.75mm*1250*C SPHC was stable at RMB 3'950/ton ($487); and Thailand origin 1.8*1250*C SPHC was quoted at RMB 4350/ton ($536), unchanged from Friday. For details, please see the following: Medium HRS&C In the morning, that prices of some leading traders who had increased their prices last week were unchanged. The price of 4.5-11.5mm SS400 produced by Tangshan Steel was in the range of RMB 3'500-3'520/ton ($432-434). On the other hand, leading traders who had decreased their prices last weekend increased their price quotations by RMB 20-30/ton to RMB 3'460-3'480/ton ($427-429). Only a few leading traders, who were in short supply, kept their prices in the lower level of RMB 3'430/ton ($423). By the afternoon, however, they increased their prices by RMB 50/ton to RMB 3480/ton ($429). Many traders indicated that the transaction volume was still low after the price increases. Price quotations of medium and small–scale traders also were stable as a whole. The prevailing price quotations were between RMB 3'460-3'480/ton ($427-429) for Tangshan Steel and Benxi Steel's 4.5-11.5mm SS400 products. Prices of Sha Steel, Lianyuan Steel and Jiuquan Steel were still in the range of RMB 3'400-3'430/ton ($419-423). However, it was reported that few of the above-mentioned products could be found on the lower end of their respective price spectrums. There was very little Jiuquan Steel 5.75mm Q235B product in the market. It is expected that a batch of Jiuquan Steel products will arrive in Shanghai fairly soon. The notable price of each steelmaker showed a slight increase. Benxi Steel 3.5mm SS400 was stable at RMB 3'600/ton ($444); Benxi Steel 4.75-7.5mm SS400 increased RMB 30/ton to RMB 3'450/ton ($425); Tangshan Steel 5.75-11.5mm SS400 was up RMB 30/ton to RMB 3'450/ton ($425); and Lianyuan Steel 5.5-7.5mm Q235B was also up RMB 30/ton to end the day at RMB 3'430/ton ($423). Thin HRS&C Price quotations of thin products were stable but weak. A leading trader ended his continuous decrease for Zhujiang Steel and Lianyuan Steel. Other traders also kept their prices unchanged. However, the bargain margin was larger today. It was reported that some SPHC products of Shanghai No.1 Steel Plant were put into the market today. Notable prices were Zhujiang Steel 1.5mm ZJ330B (Finished Coils) at RMB 4'530/ton ($559); Zhujiang Steel 1.75mm ZJ330B (Finished Coils) at RMB 4'280/ton ($528); Zhujiang Steel 1.85mm ZJ330B (Finished Coils) at RMB 4'120/ton ($508); Lianyuan Steel 2.0mm Q235B at RMB 4'100/ton ($506); 2.75mm Q235B Meishan Steel at RMB 3'800/ton ($469); 2.75mm SPHC Meishan at RMB 3'900/ton ($481); and Shanghai No.1 Steel 2.75mm SPHC at RMB 4'030/ton ($497). All of the above were unchanged from the last trading day. MMK (Russia) 1.8mm08YU was RMB 4'300/ton ($530).
