China claims 63% of new shipbuilding orders globally in 2025

In 2025, China attracted 63 percent of new shipbuilding orders (35.37 million CGT, 1,421 ships) globally, ranking first in the global market, while South Korea claimed a 21 percent share (11.6 million CGT), ranking second, according to the data issued by Clarksons, the world’s leading provider of integrated shipping services.

In 2025, new shipbuilding orders totaling 56.43 million CGT were placed in the global market, down 27 percent year on year.
