China and the United States achieved positive and concrete progress in the fields of agriculture and energy during the latest round of trade consultations, with the details subject to finalization by both sides, according to an official Chinese statement issued by China Daily on Sunday, June 3.
The statement came after Chinese vice-premier Liu He held talks with US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross in Beijing on Saturday and Sunday. The talks were a continuation of the China-US trade and economic consultations held in Washington two weeks ago.
According to the Chinese statement, “China’s attitude has always been consistent. In order to satisfy the growing demand of Chinese domestic consumers for a better life, meet the requirements of high quality and economic development, China is willing to increase imports from countries around the world, including the United States, which is good for the people of both countries and the whole world.”
“If the United States introduces trade measures, including an increase in tariffs, all the economic and trade outcomes negotiated by the two parties will not take effect,” said the statement issued by China Daily.
The statement also emphasized that reform and opening-up as well as boosting domestic demand are China's national strategies and the established pace [of implementation of these strategies] will not change.
