Chengdu Steel begins production of large diameter pipe

On Friday, November 18, the 340-continuous rolling machine of Pangang Group’s Chengdu Iron and Steel Company began production after initially beginning test runs at the end of September. The 500’000-metric-tons per annum line is capable of producing the largest diameter pipes in China, i.e. 139.7-426mm diameter, 5-40mm thickness and 3.0—14.63m length. Germany-based SMS-MEER Company provided the bulk of the equipment for the project. Chengdu Steel invested RMB 1.496 billion ($185 million) this project, which is the largest such project for both the company and Sichuan Province. Chengdu Steel will now be able to provide the petroleum, mechanic and chemical industry with large quantities of superior seamless pipes. SteelOrbis Shanghai
