Changzhi Steel to start production at new wire rod project in January

Shanxi Province-based Chinese steelmaker Changzhi Iron and Steel Co., a subsidiary of Shougang Group, has started to carry out trial tests at its new high-speed wire rod project, as announced by Shougang Group on December 20.
 
Construction work on the project started in April of the current year, while production operations are expected to commence in January 2013. The designed annual output of high-speed wire rod is 1.1 million mt, with an estimated annual output value of RMB 7.5 billion ($1.2 billion). The wire rod products will be in a diameter range of 5.5-25 mm, and will include medium carbon steel, high carbon steel and cold forging steel.
