Capacity replacement details issued for Fujian Sanbao Steel

The Department of Industry and Information Technology of China’s Fujian Province has issued the capacity replacement details relating to two new 105 mt electric arc furnaces and one 100 mt converter being built by Fujian Province-based Sanbao Steel Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Fujian Sanbao Steel) at Zhangzhou in Fujian. The capacities to be eliminated include one 50 mt electric arc furnace, one 70 mt electric arc furnace and one 90 mt electric arc furnace belonging to Fujian Sanbao Steel. Meanwhile, construction work on the new electric arc furnaces and converter will begin in October this year, while production operations are due to start in December 2020. 

The new arc furnaces and converter will have an annual steelmaking capacity of 1.15 million mt, replacing the three abovementioned arc furnaces which had a total annual steelmaking capacity of 1.56 million mt. The remaining 0.4 million mt of steelmaking capacity will be used by the steelmaker at a future date.
