Canam Group records net loss despite 21 percent higher sales

Boucherville, Quebec-based construction products and steel fabricator Canam Group Inc. reported Thursday consolidated sales of $218.5 million in Q2 2011 (ended June 25) compared to sales of $180 million in Q2 2010--an increase of 21 percent.  However, the Canam Group still recorded a net loss of $5.8 million for Q2 2011 compared with a net loss of $1.7 million in Q2 2010.

The net loss was even more substantial for Canam Group for the first six months of 2011. Canam reported a net loss of $45.5 million in the January to June period, compared with a net loss of $2.3 million over the same period last year; sales were up 31 percent.
