The Canadian government is considering imposing both tariffs and quotas on steel imports in an attempt to prevent rising steel imports diverted to the country because of the Section 232 measures in the US, according to media reports.

Bloomberg quoted Canada’s industry minister Navdeep Bains as saying that the previously announced list of products that could be subject to a duty could be expanded. The list included energy tubular goods, steel plates and rebar.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, earlier this month Canada imposed additional import tariffs against steel, aluminum, and other products from the US worth C$16.6 billion ($12.6 billion) as of July 1, as countermeasures against the US steel and aluminum tariffs.
