In September this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China totaled 2.21 million units and 2.27 million units. While the figures were 11 percent and 16 percent higher compared to August, in year on year comparison, the car output and sales posted decrease for a 15 consecutive month. Automotive production and sales were 6.2 percent and 5.2 percent lower compared to September 2018, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
“The decline is still relatively large, continuing the downward trend since July last year. China's automobile production and sales have been declining for 15 consecutive months, among which production and sales of new energy vehicles have also declined for three consecutive months,” the association said.
The CAAM expected five percent annual decline in sales for the whole 2019 to 26.68 million units. It was predicted that sales will be better in the second half of the year but it has not improved as much as expected yet.
The production and sales of new energy vehicles were 89,000 and 80,000 units in September, down 29.9 percent and 34.2 percent respectively over the same period of the previous year.
