CAAM: China's car sales improve in Oct from Sept, but still down year on year

In October this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China totaled 2.295 million units and 2.284 million units, while the figures were respectively 3.9 percent and 0.6 percent higher compared to September, whereas in the year-on-year comparison car output and sales posted a decrease for a 16th consecutive month, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Automotive production and sales were 1.7 percent and 4 percent lower compared to October 2018.

In October, passenger vehicles output and sales amounted to 1.938 million units and 1.928 million units, up 3.9 percent month on month and down 0.2 percent month on month, respectively, while down 3.2 percent and 5.8 percent year on year.

The CAAM considers that the vehicles market is unlikely to rebound in the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year.

The production and sales of new energy vehicles in China totaled 95,000 and 75,000 units in October, down 35.4 percent and 45.6 percent respectively from the same period of the previous year.
