CAAM: China's car output down 25.4% in Jan, bigger drop likely in Feb

In January, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China totaled 1.767 million units and 1.927 million units, down 34.1 percent and 27.5 percent month on month, while down 25.4 percent and 18.7 percent year on year, respectively, as announced by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on February 26.

In January, passenger vehicle output and sales amounted to 1.436 million units and 1.607 million units, down 34.3 percent and 27.4 percent month on month, while declining by 28.1 percent and 20.6 percent year on year, respectively.

Commercial vehicle output and sales in the given month amounted to 331,000 units and 320,000 units, down 33.4 percent and 28.1 percent month on month, while decreasing by 10.5 percent and 7.5 percent year on year, respectively.

According to CAAM, the impact of the outbreak of the coronavirus on the automobile industry will be more obvious in the data for February, while it indicated that it expects production and sales of automotive vehicles in China to indicate bigger declines in February.
