Brazil’s panel request for US measures is approved by WTO

The panel ruling by Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the WTO, aiming to decide on the legality of the US safeguard measures implemented in March 2002 will also cover Brazil upon the approval of this country's request during the WTO meeting held on July 29, 2002. This decision brings the number of countries up to eight ruling for which will be carried ou by the same panel. Brazil's request based on the argument that the US safeguard measures disturbed the world steel market and negatively effected steel exports of the country, is approved by the US although creating a disappointment at that front. As a result, one single panel will examine the US safeguard measures for China, the EU, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and Brazil.
