Brazil's flat distributor sales decline in August year-on-year

Brazilian distributor sales of flat steel products in August dropped 0.8 percent, year-on-year, but increased 8.4 percent, month-on-month, to 299,200 mt, the nation’s flat steel distributors association, Inda, said on Tuesday.

Inda said purchases of flat steel by local distributors in August improved 8.4 percent, year-on-year, and 5.5 percent, month-on-month, to 300,100 mt. According to Inda, inventory by local distributors in August rose 0.1 percent, month-on- month, to 919,900 mt. Inventory turnover in August declined to 3.1 months, from 3.3 months in July this year.

Inda said Brazilian imports of flat steel products by domestic distributors in August was 99,300 mt, 14.7 percent down, year-on-year, and 10.9 percent down, month-on-month. The trade group estimates both the sale and purchase of flat steel products by distributors to drop 10 percent in September, on a month-on-month basis.
