According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in September this year amounted to 2.96 million metric tons, with a 7.6 percent increase year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output rose 2.6 percent to 1.86 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2016.
Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 25.47 million metric tons of crude steel in the January-September period of this year, up 9.1 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 16.56 million mt in the given period, up 4.7 percent year on year.
Brazilian domestic steel sales increased by 5.4 percent year on year in September to 1.54 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first nine months of this year totaled 12.59 million metric tons, increasing by 0.2 percent year on year.
Brazil's exports of steel products in September amounted to 1.16 million metric tons, falling by 13.7 percent, with a value of $595 million, down four percent, both on year-on-year basis. Steel product exports in the January-September period of this year totaled 11 million mt, worth $5.6 billion, with an increase of 9.3 percent in volume and a rise of 36 percent in value compared to the same period of last year.
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in September this year amounted to 221,000 metric tons, increasing 7.3 percent, with a value of $215 million, up 36.1 percent, both year on year. Brazil’s total steel imports in the first nine months of this year came to 1.83 million metric tons, representing a 56.8 percent increase in volume year on year, while the value of these imports in the given period totaled $1.7 billion, rising by 44.4 percent year on year.
