Brazil’s crude steel output down 8.8 percent in October

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in October this year amounted to 2.72 million metric tons, with an 8.8 percent decrease year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 2.6 percent to 1.93 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2015. 
 
Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 25.64 million metric tons of crude steel in the first ten months of this year, down 9.2 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 17.72 million mt in the given period, down 8.1 percent year on year. 
 
Brazilian domestic steel sales decreased by 5.5 percent year on year in October to 1.37 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first ten months of this year totaled 13.94 million metric tons, decreasing by 11.1 percent year on year.
 
Brazil's exports of steel products in October amounted to 931,400 metric tons, falling by 23.4 percent, with a value of $409.4 million, down 17.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Steel product exports in the January-October period of this year totaled 10.99 million mt, worth $4.53 billion, with a decrease of 2.3 percent in volume and a fall of 19.9 percent in value compared to the same period of last year.
 
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in October this year amounted to 282,200 metric tons, increasing 47.1 percent, with a value of $180.9 million, down 2.4 percent, both year on year. Brazil’s total steel imports in the first ten months of this year came to 1.45 million metric tons, representing a 51 percent decrease in volume from the first ten months of the previous year, while the value of these imports in the given period totaled $1.35 billion, falling by 51.6 percent year on year.
