Brazilian ThyssenKrupp subsidiary fined $1.66 million for environmental damage

Brazil-based ThyssenKrupp CSA was fined $1.66 million on Thursday, and has to pay $8.3 million in damages for repeatedly violating environmental regulations at its new Rio de Janeiro-based steel plant.

The damages to be paid are to improve the living standards of local Rio de Janeiro citizens including financing sewage projects, road paving, as well as a health center.

In July, ThyssenKrupp CSA was charged $1.01 million for similar pollution problems.
