ThyssenKrupp CSA, the Brazilian subsidiary of German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp expects its Rio de Janeiro-based steel plant to operate at full capacity this year.

The plant has been operating at approximately 70 percent of its capacity after being fined millions on more than one occasion for environmental damage resulting from its steelmaking operations. ThyssenKrupp is confident, however, that it will receive approval from Brazilian officials in the spring to begin operating at full capacity-approximately 14,600 metric tons (mt) of pig-iron per day.
