The Brazilian iron ore miner Bahia Mineração (Bamin) announced the consortium that will build 127 km of railroad, the last stretch of the 537 km line that will link the company’s mine of Pedra de Ferro, in the city of Caetité, to the port of Ilhéus, both in the northeastern state of Bahia.

According to Bamin, the consortium is composed by the Brazilian contractor TIISA and the Chinese Crec-10, which are expected to conclude the works in three years, at a cost estimated at $220 million.

When concluded, the railroad will have a capacity of 60 million mt per year, 40 percent of which will be used by Bamin, while the balance 60 percent will be available to other miners in the region and to the transportation of agricultural products.

Bamin is controlled by the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), of Kazakhstan origin.
