Borcelik’s new galvanizing line for automotive industry starts production
The galvanizing line investment which was previously reported by SteelOrbis on March 13, 2003, made by Borcelik to supply material to the
automotive industry is completed and started trial operations.
Engineering and consultancy divisions of Arcelor were present at every phase of the process to put the line into commission. Engineering division has facilitated Borcelik in awarding the contract to CMI, a Belgian company which is at the same time the constructor of the line. The plant, having a capacity of 400'000 tons, will produce exposed and non-exposed
galvanized steel for the
automotive industry with “Extragal” license developed by Arcelor, producing zero spangled material in thickness ranging between 0.25 mm-2.00 mm.
The new galvanizing line has an inspection line necessary for meeting exposed material requirements of the
automotive industry and an automotic inspection equipment, together with skin pass and tension levelling lines.
In order to supply cold rolled full hard steel to be used in the new galvanizing line as raw material a new reversing mill will be build. SteelOrbis is informed that, another 450'000 tons of material, which will double the current capacity, is planned to be produced in the new reversing mill.
It is reported that materials in thickness over 2.00 mm will continue to be produced at the existing 60'000 tons galvanizing line which has originally operated under the name of Birlik Galvaniz.
