The contract to be signed by Bolivia and China’s Sinosteel for the building of the El Mutún iron and steel complex was designed to protect the initiative against international arbitrage, said the nation’s mining minister, Cesar Navarro.

According to Navarro, any issue related to the Chinese company will be dealt with according to Bolivian laws, and not to foreign rules.

Navarro said the final contract with Sinosteel should be signed by the end of March, according to a media report. Under the terms of the proposed contract, Sinosteel should deliver the project “producing steel” and stay in Bolivia for a year of follow-up after the mill is completed.
