BlueScope Steel to invest in Indonesia
Australian steel producer BlueScope Steel has announced that it plans to expand the capacity of the steel metallic coating and painting plant in
Indonesia in order to meet rising demand. This is the second time BlueScope invests in
Indonesia this year.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, BlueScope Steel in March 2004 invested A$7.94 million ($5.7 million) in the facility at Cilegon, Banten province to increase flat steel painting capacity of the facility from 25'000 tons to 55'000 tons.
BlueScope officials stated that demand for the company's products has increased since the beginning of the year and in order to meet domestic demand, the company has been reducing exports.
The plant in
Indonesia has two lines. The capacity of the coating line is planned to be increased by 25% to 125'000 tons by 2007 and the capacity of the painting line is planned to be increased by 10% soon.
