On October 9 2008, the new blast furnace of China's Liaoning Province-based Benxi Iron and Steel Co., Ltd was ignited and formally put into production, representing an historic leap in the company's steelmaking, with total annual output now reaching around ten million metric tons.

The new blast furnace is one of the most advanced large blast furnaces in China, of 4,350 cubic meters, with designed annual production capacity of 3.5 million metric tons, and with a lifespan campaign (without maintenance) of fifteen years. Furthermore, the new blast furnace is eco-friendly with its discharge indices all satisfying national standards. Specifically, no residues will be discharged, and the waste water will be recycled and reused.
