Belgian crude steel output down five percent in Q3

In the third quarter of 2012, Belgian crude steel production fell by five percent year on year and was down 5.8 percent compared to the second quarter of this year, amounting to 1.77 million mt, according to the Belgian Steel Federation (GSV).

Belgian hot rolled coil production amounted to 1.86 million metric tons in the third quarter, falling by 10 percent year on year and down 7.7 percent compared to the second quarter of this year, while its cold rolled coil production declined four percent year on year to 1.13 million metric tons, down 1.1 percent quarter on quarter.

In the given period, Belgian steelmakers produced 864,000 metric tons of coated sheets, up eight percent year on year and down nine percent quarter on quarter, while Belgium's stainless steel output stood at 275,000 metric tons, increasing by five percent year on year and down 20.5 percent quarter on quarter.
