From August 20 to September 4, Beijing will implement measures to limit steel output in its surrounding six provinces (Hebei, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shandong and Henan) in order to ensure clean air during the period of the Beijing World Athletics Championship 2015 (August 22-30) and the 70th anniversary of China’s victory over Japan (September 3-5).

In the given period, key industries and enterprises that discharge pollutants will have to implement production restrictions to ensure good air quality. Meanwhile, building demolition works will be halted throughout the whole city. Market insiders have stated that the steel output limitation measures will result in a reduction of over 4 million mt of crude steel output during the period in question.
